This isn't the first time I've grabbed Mark Cuban in the hall of a hotel to interview him, and it won't be the last! And I must say, Cuban is as gracious a webebrity as GETV has ever met. Not only did he shake the hand of every member of the Consumer Electronics Association who wanted to touch a piece of history (yes, goddamit -- if you sell your start-up for $5 billion in 1991, and then you buy the Dallas Mavericks and then you marry a hottie named Tiffany, you're a piece of American history), he explained his Sharesleuth.com website several times over to several inquiring minds. When we finally wrestled Cuban away from his fans to our adoring camera, we had to bug him about his topic du jour = YouTube's illegal conent and how it's all going down in a burning ball of lawsuits . Cuban's been busy -- he's got 12 films coming out of his production studio, the first due out Dec. 1 called The Architect featuring Isabella Rosellini. But our favorite part of the interview is where he tells us what he does in front of the television AFTER he checks his email at night. You'll have to watch to see what that is. What does a 24-year-old physics student have to do with running celebrity-focused ajax-yummy site Kevo? GETV flew all the way to Los Angeles to find out. We met up with late-blooming geekstar Will Jessup (he discovered his Java genius only a few years ago) and asked him to show us his very LA-LA-land labor of love. Basically, Will wants to create the end-all source of information on all famous people in the whole universe. Kevo is like wikipedia for celebrities but with features of digg and none of those pesky wikipedia problems where anyone can edit anything -- users have to earn karma points and can't edit pages pages that are worth more points than they have earned so far. Get it? I know, even Will admits he may be too brilliant for his own good, but we discourage anyone from dumbing themselves down just to be understood. That's what we're here for. If GETV could admit to being a groupie of any vlog, it would be Ask A Ninja, since being a groupie of a ninja is an honor. And being killed by one is too. But Irina's not quite ready to be chopped up into little pieces, so instead she fired off question after question at the "Ask a Ninja" team of Kent Nichols aka Beatbox Giant (he towers at six feet six inches tall) and Doug Sarine, who is "very close with the ninja" we hear. The ninja is not only a lethal killer, but with hundreds of thousands of viewers, a vlogging force of destruction. Hear about ninja skills of epidermal removal and frozen baskets of loneliness. Yahoo!, that benevolent purple and yellow Internet behemoth, opened her doors to hungry hackers of all stripes for 24 hours last weekend. The result was over 500 pizzas eaten, 100+ dozen Krispy Kremes demolished, untold gallons of Rockstar, RedBull and coffee liquified, one major rockstar played out and over 50 API mashup projects completed. Who knew that a megalo-uber-etoile like Beck Hansen would entertain just a few hundred geekerati this past weekend (the likes of dotben and Joyce Parks) at Yahoo Hack Day 2006, but alas, it's true. To the amazed delight of childlike adults dressed in all manner of t-shirt and jean combos, one of the best musicians around (and Scientology's finest gift to mankind so far) put on a full stage show at the annual geekfest, including on-stage-maneuvered puppets, bear costumes and even a custom-filmed mini-movie about hacking, Yahoo! and puppet porn. Hard as GETV tried to climb into the Yahoo! workout room, where Beck met with the Yahoo! fancy-pants, we could not (Eddie wanted to get some beer, mostly.) Finally, as Beck graced the hacking area (aka, Yahoo! cafeteria) we grabbed the band members and asked them as many questions as we could, despite having no brain cells left in the presence of actual and non-Internet rock stars. Seriously, these guys are like a set of triplets connected at the brain cuz when we asked them a question, all three would answer in parts that spewed out like one coherent response. Josh Wolf, freelance journalist, videoblogger and federal prisoner who is not accused of committing a crime, was out on bail while the courts considered his case. We caught up with Josh just days before he found out that his bail was revoked and his first appeal was denied. Josh is facing a contempt charge for failing to turn over unpublished video footage to a federal Grand Jury. Normally under state law, Josh is protected by the California Shield Law. Since this case has been federalized, the normal rules don't apply. Full details of Josh's case can be found on his blog. UPDATE: Josh Wolf got a 48 hour reprieve from the 9th Circuit Court from turning himself into federal prison in Dublin, CA. He now has to report to prison on Friday, September 22nd at 1pm PDT.
