Xmas Special Music Video

Posted in GETV Episode by ekai on the December 23rd, 2006

After seeing Justin Timberlake’s brilliant gift idea on SNL last week, MC Slutsky didn’t want to leave the fella’s out in the cold. So, despite a horrific tone deafness, here is her rendition of this very special Christmas song. The track was laid down by Drown Radio aka Doc, a San Francisco electronic music artist and Nerdcore MC, who also directed the video for MC Slutsky’s musical debut. Look out for more collaborations from these two, a la Timbaland/Missy. Additional presents provided by Molly Ditmore. And all the fancy gadgets are belong to Ryan Block. Big ups to Jay Dedman for the camera & editing work on this one.

It is often said that children (and aren’t all men, at the end of the day, children?) may spend more time playing with the packaging than the gift itself, on Christmas morning.

This may, of course, take on special resonance in San Francisco.

“What did you get your boyfriend this year?”

    “Boobs in a box.”

    “Wow. And?”

“Well, he spent a long time playing with the wrapping paper.”

“I’ve always wondered about that boy….”

“Me too. I’m re-boxing them tomorrow and putting them on Craigslist…”

[…] A few days ago, Irina Slutsky contacted me about creating a female’s response to Dick In A Box for GeekEntertainment.tv Starting on the music Friday morning, blocking the vid, recording vox, editing, and getting it all early last night. We had to drop a lot of gags due to time constraints, but shits still funny. It’s MC Slutsky’s debut performance, and hopefully won’t be the last comedy collabo we do for GETV. […]

[…] So PodTech once again came to film at my place — this time to shoot GETV’s Boobs in a Box spoof. There were a few golden moments (see: his face when Molly opens the box), but the real treat came after they were done shooting. Doc, the dude running the shoot with Irina, is apparently an accomplished yo-yo act. Third in the world he says. Not that I didn’t believe him, but then he started in with the tricks. Just watch the video — and yes, one of his tricks actually has him physically remove the spinning yo-yo from its string (and then reattach it). I can’t help but notice that this unfunny video was based on that other unfunny video on SNL. They say good artists borrow crap… but great artists steal crap and reduce the production value infinitely.

When can we expect a timely parody of that Taco Bell dog that everyone’s talking about?

Also, how did Daddy hurt you?

  28. Aren said,

    on December 26th, 2006 at 8:26 pm

That was horrible, sorry. Nips in a box would have more funny and accurate.

  29. on December 26th, 2006 at 8:56 pm

yay! big ups to Brian for leaving a negative comment AND not being “anonymous” like Aren — I totally understand people not being big fans of GETV, but i don’t understand them being too scared to leave a link back to their site. don’t be scurred, Aren, i may actually take your suggestion and turn it into an episode! re Brian’s Daddy question: Father Boris and I have been through a lot of therapy, but one thing’s for sure — I’ve never called him Daddy.

oh i didnt mean to single out Arlen and forgot to mention the other 3 scurred boys who took time out of their day to tell us how lame our video was, but declined to tell us where to find them online so we can ask them for suggestions on how to improve! –> MonkeyAllen, m0nstermike and mike apollo 🙂

  32. Kyle said,

Looks like this vid has gotten a bunch of negative comments and deservidly so. I think I can explain why this vid fails so miserably.
    1) SNL: intentional 80s style including wardrobe, dance moves, boys 2 men style sound processing.
Your video: none of the above.
    2) SNL: funny lyrics, comedic acting, surprise.
Your video: one instance of comedic acting, otherwise none of the above.
    3) SNL: plausible ‘junk in the box’.
Your vid: Boobs strapped to the outside of a box. You forgot step 2, ‘put your junk that box’.
    4) Misses the point entirely, and doesn’t seem to have a reason to be funny. ‘Dick in Box’ is funny because it’s the worst possible Christmas gift.

    Hope that helps, keep truckin.

I fell over weeping — weeping with gratitude that finally geek guys will have an instructional guide on what the heck to do with a woman’s bust line – any bust line would be an unexpected gift, right? So c’mon all you critics with a tude, this is the how-to guide you’ve been secretly hoping for!
